The city of Gems








Ratnapura "the city of gems "is a major city in Sri Lanka and the capital of the Sabaragamuwa province. This has been the main center of the gem industry since ancient times.Rathnapura is a Sanscrit word for gem .Rathna means gem and pura means city.

Rathnapura is a city in the southwestern part of Sri Lanka .The southwest monsoon rains fall and floods are common because of the proximity to the river "kalu"  .

While earning a large income from the gem industry in Rathnapura ,rubber and tea plantations are also successfully cultivated here. this tea is known as low-grow tea. the tourism industry is also based in areas such as Sinharaja  Kitulgala and Bopath Ella. 

Places like Sri pada, Delgamu Viharaya and Samn Devalaya are also popular tourist attractions and the annual procession of the Saman Devalaya is another unique cultural event held in the country.

Water is essential but common.it has so many formations.Among those waterfalls are the most fascinating natural resource we possess. Dunhida is one of the best in my little sri lanka which is located in badulla District .the name implies the smoke like spray it creates as its water falls in to the rock pool below .the graceful nature of falling the huge flow of water is really enchanting and amusing .cascading through the lush green forest and splashing on the gigantic rocks and innocently moving ahead wetting and fertilizing an enormous area of badulla village .this massive volume of glistening water has some magic in it that calms the tensed mind. 🤩🤩
